SKILL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The skill development programs under the Government of India provide demand-based skill training to poor rural youth aged 15-35, covering sectors like retail, hospitality, health, and construction, to ensure gainful wage employment. The program emphasizes guaranteed placement for at least 75% of trainees, post-placement support, and a focus on soft skills and functional IT literacy to build comprehensive employability.

  • Target Beneficiaries: Rural youth from poor families, aged 15 to 35 years.
  • Sectoral Coverage: Training covers a wide range of sectors, including Retail, Hospitality, Health, Construction, Automotive, and Electrical, among others.
  • Curriculum Standards: Training adheres to standards set by the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) and relevant Sector Skills Councils (SSCs).
  • Focus on Soft Skills: In addition to technical skills, training includes functional English, functional IT literacy, and soft skills to enhance employability.
  • Outcome-Led Design: A key focus is achieving a minimum 75% placement rate for trained candidates.

RSETIs, managed by banks, offer free, short-term training programs tailored to local needs and candidate interests. RSETIs focus on entrepreneurship development, enabling rural youth, including those Below Poverty Line (BPL), to initiate self-employment ventures. To further enhance the quality of training and monitoring, a Learning Management System (LMS) is being developed under the RSETI program. This digital initiative, in collaboration with IIT Madras and NABARD, aims to provide a centralized platform for delivering standardized training modules, real-time monitoring, and consistent access to learning resources for trainers, trainees, and assessors across RSETIs.
